16-year-old sentenced for sex trafficking minors

A 16-year-old has been sentenced for sex trafficking girls virtually his own age.

Jmaire Wray has been charged with two counts of sex trafficking and one count of felony assault. He was sentenced to 15 years, with six to serve.

Police say he and another man, 20-year-old Reginald Chaney, both from East Providence, forced two girls ages 15 and 16 to take provocative photos. Those photos were posted to Backpage.com to solicit sex for money. The Attorney General’s office says the two men then made arrangements for the women to meet up with clients in several locations around the state and into Massachusetts.

"It’s horrifying actually to see,” said Assistant Rhode Island Attorney General Daniel Guglielmo. “When you think about it who knows some of the most vulnerable children, other children."

Guglielmo says it’s rare for a minor to serve as the pimp in a sex trafficking case, but it does happen.

"We have seen a couple of cases involving kids trafficking kids. Part of the problem is that the money is so good and the money is so fast,” said Guglielmo.

Chaney has also been charged and is currently being held in jail for a probation violation.
