WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) – A 16-year-old from Woonsocket was seriously injured after crashing his car into a utility pole early Friday morning.

Officials said it happened on Mendon Road around 1 a.m.

Woonsocket Police Chief Thomas Oates believes speed was a factor in the crash. According to officials, the teen was clocked going 95 mph moments before the wreck.

16-year-old Cesar Leon was the only passenger in the car at the time of the wreck and was taken to UMASS Medical Center in Worcester by med-flight where he remains in critical condition.

Chief Oates said Leon was driving without a license and could face charges. However, officials told ABC6 they aren’t worried about pressing charges at the moment as they’re mostly worried about the teen making a full recovery.
