Community mourns 17-year-old killed in car accident

SCITUATE, R.I. (WLNE)- A community is mourning after a 17-year-old girl died in a car accident on Thursday.

Scituate Police and North Scituate Fire responded to reports of a serious single-car crash on Hartford Pike.

Police said the 17-year-old driver was ejected from the car. She was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital where she later died of her injuries.

The victim was confirmed by school officials as Katherine Hill. Hill was part of the Coventry High School Class of 2021.

Coventry Superintendent Craig Levis told ABC6 News, “We were informed Friday morning that Katherine Hill, Coventry High School Class of 2021, passed away last night shortly after being involved in a car accident.  Katherine was a resident of North Scituate and a student in the Coventry Regional Career and Technical Education Center Automotive Program.”

“Katherine brightened the lives of all of those who knew her, especially her teachers and fellow students.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Katherine’s family and friends,” Levis said.

The school will provide grief counseling to all students and staff over the weekend and Monday, March 8, at Coventry High School.
