District attorney’s office identifies both victim and potential suspect in New Bedford Stabbing
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE)- Massachusetts State Police and New Bedford Police have identified the victim and a potential suspect in Tuesday morning’s stabbing in Clasky Common Park.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said that the victim was 18-year-old Rayshard Normill-Jerome.
Police arrested 21-year-old Latrell Baskin as well as an unidentified 16-year-old in connection to the murder.
A Massachusetts State Trooper was patrolling near the park at around 1:24 a.m. when a women flagged him down and told him that there was a man lying unresponsive nearby.
The trooper made his way over to the Normill-Jerome and requested immediate medical assistance, after seeing that he had suffered several stab wounds.
Rescue officials arrived at the scene and transported Normill-Jerome to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:02 a.m.
Baskin is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
The 16-year-old juvenile is also being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
He is being held without bail pending of a Dangerousness Hearing in New Bedford District Court on August 6.
