18-year-old in critical condition after shooting in Woonsocket

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Woonsocket Police Chief Thomas Oates said an 18-year-old is in critical condition after a shooting late Saturday night.

Oates said that officers were called to Joffre Avenue around 11 p.m. for reports of a shooting, where they found an 18-year-old male on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Oates added that a 17-year-old was arrested as a suspect and is currently awaiting arraignment on Monday for felony assault and other firearms charges.

The police also seized two firearms at the scene.
