19-year-old woman dies after being shot in Pawtucket Sunday night

PAWTUCKET, R.I (WLNE) – A 19-year-old woman has died following a shooting in Pawtucket on Sunday night that is now being investigated as a homicide.

The victim has been identified as Tatyana Francois of Cranston.

Pawtucket police responded to the shooting on Japonic Street around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. Neighbors like Katie Hoyas told ABC 6 News they were woken up to the sound of gunshots.

“I walked in the house and I heard what sounded like fireworks or something,” neighbor Katie Hoyas said. “I sat and listened for a minute and then I heard a scream. A loud scream. And then I heard a car peel off.”

Francois was found critically injured, suffering from a gunshot wound. She later died from her injuries.

The shooting marks the second in Pawtucket in recent days and the latest in a string of shootings in the greater Providence area.

“It’s horrible. Everything going on lately with the violence and the guns, it’s sad. What if it was my daughter?” Hoyas said. “Those are family members and kids. They’re younger than me; it’s like, how? What’s going on?”
