2 Die in Dartmouth Head-On Collision
2 Dartmouth residents died in a two-car accident on Russells Mills Rd. in Dartmouth, Friday evening.
Rescue crews responded to the scene shortly before 5:30 Friday night. Once on scene crews found two cars with heavy damage, with both drivers trapped in their cars.
According to a press release issued by the Dartmouth Police Department, a 2006 Jeep Commander driven by Derek Vassal, was driving east on Russells Mills Rd. when he hit a 2007 Mitsubishi Galant driven by Joyce Gilson head-on.
The jaws of life were needed to pull both victims out of their cars. Mr. Vassal was taken by helicopter to Rhode Island hospital with serious injuries. He later died of his injuries.
Ms.. Gilson was also taken by helicopter to Brigham & Women's Hospital, where she later died of her injuries.
Ms. Gilson's husband, Lawrence Gilson was also in the car at the time of the accident. He was taken to Saint Luke's Hospital in New Bedford for his injuries, but was later taken by helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital, where he is listed in fair condition.
