PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police said two people were arrested Thursday in connection to a shooting in broad day near the State House earlier last week.

Police said 24-year-old Jim Peterson Durandisse and 23-year-old Karljaphey Theodore were arrested in Connecticut. They’re waiting to be extradited to Rhode Island.

The shooting happened just after 1 p.m. July 10 on Francis Street. Police said 28-year-old Zenil Gomes drove himself to the hospital after being shot in the ankle and calf.

Gomes said he was returning his son to his mother, Carminda Cardoda. Both parents have a 2-year-old son and have joint custody. They were meeting halfway because Cardoda lives in Norwich, Connecticut.

When Gomes approached Cardoda’s car, he began arguing with the person in the front passenger seat, police said. That person began shooting at Gomes before he started running away. A person in the rear seat of the mothers passenger car got out and also began shooting.

Police said shots were fired in the same direction of the car that the child was sitting in. However, the kid wasn’t injured.

Arrest warrants were later issued to the people from Connecticut. Norwch police later arrested the two suspects. During the arrest, a gun was found in the car.

DCYF in Massachusetts and Connecticut were notified by Providence police.
