3 RI men arrested for felony assault, robbery, & arson

Three men were arrested in connection with a felony assault, robbery, and arson, that occurred on July 8th, 2014.

Bertie C. Smith, 35, of Richmond, RI, Jacob A. Forand, 21, of Bradford, RI, and Robert A. Pacheco, 55, of Bradford, RI, allegedly encountered the victim at 1:30 AM, after the victim had lost his keys in his vehicle in a Cumberland Farms parking lot.

The suspects took the victim to First Hopkinton Cemetery in Hopkinton where they beat him unconscious and left him, stealing his 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck and taking it to Woody Hill Road where they purposely crashed it and set it on fire.

On July 8th at about 5:30 AM the victim showed up at Westerly Hospital, where Westerly Police were notified of an assault victim being treated for a broken nose, broken orbital socket, detached retina and various cuts and bruises.  

The victim’s vehicle was later found by police, burnt and destroyed.

On July 17th, Forand and Pacheco were arrested on the warrants and transported to the ACI. Smith is being held without bail at the ACI, waiting to be arraigned on July 23rd.
