350 pound sea turtle rescued on a Cape Cod beach
TRURO, Mass. (WLNE) – A 350-pound adult male Sea Turtle was saved on the beach of Truro on Friday, according to the New England Aquarium.
The rescue was thanks to the Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary and the Truro Dept. of Public Works.
The turtle is now being cared for at the Sea Turtle Hospital in Quincy.
“This is a significant discovery since it is extremely rare to get an adult male loggerhead in our area, much less this early in the season,” New England Aquarium said on their Facebook page.
The turtle came in only minimally responsive and was not initiating breaths on his own.
Vets and biologists have been administering medication and replacement fluids to help stabilize the turtle, the aquarium says.
