5 people, including 3 students, taken to hospital after Burrillville bus crash
BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (WLNE) — Burrillville police said five people, including three students, were taken to the hospital after a bus crash Thursday morning.
The crash happened just before 8:30 a.m. on Camp Dixie Road.
Maj. Albert Carlow said the other children on the bus were taken to a “collection point,” where they were either picked up by their parents or taken to school.
The drivers of the elementary school bus and car were also taken to the hospital.
“All people transported walked to the rescue for evaluating,” said the major.
Carlow said the injuries appeared to be minor and that sun glare may have been a factor in the crash.
Joyce Fortier, who heard a loud noise when the crash happened, told ABC 6 News, “It was kind of scary at first when I heard it because I knew the bus had just gone by.”
“She has been driving since I’ve been teaching, and I’ve been retired for 15 years. Probably her first incident she ever had in the years I’ve known her,” Fortier added.
Superintendent Michael Sollitto told ABC 6 News the students taken to the hospital had bumps and bruises.
Police said the bus transports students to various schools in town.
