50 new positive cases puts Maximum Security on lockdown at ACI

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE)- The Maximum Security unit at the state’s Adult Correctional Institutions is on lockdown after 50 new COVID-19 cases were discovered through surveillance testing, Rhode Island Department of Corrections  spokesman J.R. Ventura said in a statement Thursday.

“The facility has been placed in a restrictive movement schedule for everyone’s safety, and we continue to follow our strict safety health protocols to mitigate the spread of the virus,” Ventura said.

The facility is working with the Rhode Island Department of Health and seeking to determine which areas may have been exposed, Ventura said.

“We are continuing to monitor the situation in all of our secured facilities,” Ventura said. “We wish everyone a speedy recovery.”
