6 injured, 18-year-old arrested after Warwick crash

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Warwick police say five people are in the hospital and one person is under arrest following a car crash.

According to the Warwick police chief, an accident was called in around 3 p.m. across from the St. Kevin Church.

Police say they are still reconstructing the scene on Sandy Lane where a Subaru and Ford were stopped in the road.

Police believe speed and roadway conditions contributed to the crash.

Five victims were sent to local hospitals for treatment, two with serious bodily injury.

Fire crews removed two trapped people from the Subaru sedan after the accident.

The driver of the Subaru is identified as 18-year-old Jaden Berthole of Alamonte Springs, Florida.

Berthole refused EMS care, according to police and was later taken into custody.

Berthole has been charged with the following:

  • Driving so as to endanger – resulting in serious personal injury – two counts
  • Driving so as to endanger – resulting in physical injury – three counts
  • Reckless driving
