PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence Public Schools hired 77 people at Tuesday’s career fair.

The department was looking to hire workers to fill teaching, assistant teaching, bus monitor, clerk, and cross guard positions.

Back in August, there were 91 classroom vacancies within the district.

Providence schools sent ABC 6 News a statement two weeks before the new school year started, saying, “The Providence Public School District is committed to creating a culture and environment where educators feel valued, respected, and able to grow professionally so that retention numbers increase to pre-pandemic levels.”

Anyone who was hired for a full-time clerk or teaching assistant position received a $2,500 bonus.
