87-year-old woman calls police after running out of food, officer goes grocery shopping for her

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE): An 87-year-old woman called the Warwick Police Department because she had no food in her home, according to police.

An officer from the Community Services Division responses to check on the woman and found she did not have any food in the house.

The woman said Westbay Community Action was unable to help her until Monday.

The officer asked for her grocery list and then went shopping.

“With the generosity of the market and members of the public who overheard the story, the officer was able to return with everything on the list,” the department said.
