883-pound great white recently tracked off New Jersey coast now in Rhode Island waters

PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) – A great white shark weighing nearly nine hundreds pounds and eleven feet long is now in Rhode Island waters after being detected off the New Jersey coastline of Atlantic City last Friday.

Her name is Freya.

On Thursday, Freya was detected in Rhode Island but experts say this path up north is normal for this time of year, and sharks this size can travel 150 miles a day.

The head of OCEARCH, Chris Fischer, spoke to ABC affiliate WPVI to give some advice on what to look for.

“If you walk out to the beach and the birds are crashing on bait, and game fish are crashing on bait – if there’s seals on top of that – then you might have a larger predator coming in to balance that system,” said Fischer.
