PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The 8th annual Rhode Island Seafood Festival wrapped up Sunday after drawing thousands of people to India Point Park over the weekend.

The event that has taken place the weekend after Labor Day since 2011, symbolizes the end of summer. On Saturday, nearly 5,000 people stopped by, and on Sunday, around 2,500.

The event is growing so much that they need to expand to a new spot for next year.

"This year’s been very difficult to have so many people, so we’re gonna do it down at the soccer field next year. We’re gonna try to double the amount of food vendors to keep lines low because there have been long lines here this weekend," said TJ McNulty, founder of the festival.

The twenty-two vendors had everything from oysters and shrimp, to clams and scallop rolls. The most popular item was, of course, the famous lobster rolls.

"We had delicious lobster rolls, littlenecks, oysters, and shrimp so it was fabulous," said Sabrina Durastanti of Cranston.

Bryant freshman Sarah Larned stopped by with two friends after they discovered the event on Facebook.

"It smells good, the music is groovy! I like to dance, I like to have a good time, so it’s fun so far," said Larned.

Next weekend, in the same spot at India Point Park, is the Rhode Island Music and Arts Festival. Click here for more details.
