WESTPORT, Mass. (WLNE) – Bristol County District Attorney’s Office say that a 10-year-old girl has died in a three-car accident that happened early Sunday morning.

At approximately 2:14 a.m., Westport Police received several frantic calls regarding a three-car accident on State Road in the area of Route 88 involving several children in multiple vehicles.

Seven patients were transported to Charlton, St. Anne’s, St. Luke’s and Hasbro Hospitals for a variety of injuries.

The 10-year-old, now identified as Anilda Ribeiro was pronounced deceased at St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River early Sunday morning.

Her 9-year-old sister was taken to Hasbro’s Children’s Hospital and is in serious condition.

A preliminary investigation showed that a car driven by a 29-year-old New Bedford woman driving a white Subaru WRX, made minor contact with the rear end of a Toyota Tundra, driven by a 43-year-old New Bedford woman.  Both were driving back to New Bedford from a party.

Both vehicles stopped in the left lane to assess the damage and agreed to deal with it at a later time.  As they were about to continue driving, a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 29-year-old Fall River man, slammed into the back of the Subaru, pushing it into the Toyota.

The two girls were allegedly in the back seat of the Subaru during the incident.

The crash is under investigation by Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned the Bristol County District Attorney Office, Massachusetts State Police Reconstruction Unit and Westport Police.
