A Few Notes on the Record Heat

The big-time heat we dealt with for the past few days hasn't been typical of a New England summer. In fact, Tuesday's weather may not be repeated for a while. Here are a few notes on the heat.

  • The high temperature was 102° at TF Green Airport. It smashed the old record of 97° set in 1991 and prior years.
  • The last time it hit 100° in Providence was August 2, 2006.
  • The last time it hit 102° was July 21, 1991.
  • 102° is the second hottest on record in Providence. On August 2, 1975 the mercury hit 104°
  • The last heat wave in Providence was July 16-21, 2008.
  • The longest heat wave in Providence was July 12-20, 1952. (9 Days)
  • The record high minimum temperature for July 7 is 73°. There is a very good shot of breaking that record.
  • We have now seen five 90° days in the summer of 2010, after seeing only two during the entire summer of 2009.
