‘A lot of people’ call with tips on Fall River cemetery vandalism, police say

FALL RIVER, R.I. (WLNE) – Potential witnesses have contacted Fall River Police Department after four gravestones were knocked to the ground in Notre Dame Cemetery last week, according to police.

A spokesperson for the police department couldn’t comment on whether or not investigators are now looking at any suspects, following those tips, but he tells ABC6 News “a lot of people” called the department.

According to police, the vandal drove a vehicle into the cemetery and slammed into the headstones, while the cemetery was open last Monday morning; causing up to $40,000 worth of damage.

Police also tell ABC6 News there are security cameras in the cemetery, but the footage isn’t proving to be very useful for the investigation.

An ABC6 News crew spotted the affected area in the cemetery, which still had tire marks from the vehicle that hit the monuments. The gravestones have been picked up off the ground by cemetery maintenance workers.

If you have any information about this case, call Fall River Police Department.
