Accurate Converter in Providence under federal investigation
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence business is under federal investigation, according to authorities.
FBI agents, the Internal Revenue Service, and police were emptying boxes from Accurate Converter on Branch Avenue and filling a white truck.
Kristen Setera, spokesperson for FBI Boston Division, told ABC 6 that they conducted a court authorized activity related to an ongoing federal investigation.
“To protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation, I’m going to refrain from commenting on its substance at this time,” said Setera.
She said there’s no threat to the public.
Providence Police Capt. Alyssa DeAndrade told ABC 6 News that the business was cited for previously violating the catalytic ordinance — which was recently passed by the Providence City Council to help fight the “growing trend of catalytic converters being stolen from cars and sold to junk and second-hand dealers. ”
