Accused murderer rejects plea deal, case headed to trial

Tony Gonzalez a man accused of the first degree murder in the shooting death of Carl Cunningham in West Warwick has rejected a plea deal from the state.

The state offered Gonzalez, 26, a sentence of life plus twenty years if he pleaded guilty to first degree murder and felony assault.

Gonzalez is accused of showing up to his ex-girlfriend's house in West Warwick on Jan. 22 2012 to confront her new boyfriend.

At his ex-girlfriend's home it is alleged that Gonzalez shot, Carl Cunningham Jr., several times, not the boyfriend, Matthew Chivers.

The case will now proceed to trial which is scheduled to begin on Feb 11.
