ACI Officer under investigation for having sex with inmate
CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE)- The Director for the Rhode Island Department of Corrections and the Rhode Island State Police have released a statement about the arrest of an ACI officer, Justin Toye, 36, who was arrested for having sex an inmate multiple times. Toye was specially arraigned by a Justice of the Peace at the State Police Headquarters and released on personal recognizance.
J.R. Ventura, spokesperson for the Department said:
“We commend the outstanding work of our Office of Internal Affairs, as well as the Rhode Island State Police, who continues to be watchful and swiftly addresses any and all reports of possible misconduct. Ventura continued, “As with all cases currently under investigation, we need to make sure the judicial process is not obstructed and allow it to run its course. The RI State Police is the lead investigating agency in this case. All future inquiries should be directed to that office.”
RIDOC Director Patricia A. Coyne-Fague Esq. issued the following response:
“We hold ourselves to the highest standards. Any employee who is found guilty of violating those standards and the public’s trust, will be held fully accountable for their actions. Any display of unethical behavior has the potential to tarnish the good work of the dedicated staff in this agency, and we have zero tolerance for it. The consequences for this type of conduct will be expeditious and severe.”
Toye is currently released but will be arraigned on December 8.
