AFC Championship Boosts RI Economy

Restaurants and hotels in Providence have a busy, but much appreciated weekend coming up. The Patriots vs. Ravens AFC Championship game will bring a lot of cash to the city.

City officials estimate Providence could take in close to a million dollars John Gibbons, Director of the Rhode Island Sports Commission started immediately reaching out to Baltimore fans.

“We have also been running ad campaigns in the Baltimore market together with T.F. Green Airport and the Visitors' Bureau, advertising on sport radio in Baltimore,” said Gibbons.

Some of those Baltimore fans are already at the Providence Marriott. And restaurants like Snookers say the Championship game is the best thing that could have happened to them.

“We expect to get really busy because of the Marriott. We get a lot of patrons from there. We're going to have a range of Patriots and Ravens fans,” explained Jennifer Rodriguez, who works at Snookers.
Even though we are in the heart of Patriots territory, the city of Providence is welcoming Ravens fans with open arms.
