PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — After a troubled start to the school year, the new Henry J. Winters Elementary School in Pawtucket will be closed for two days.

In a statement Tuesday, Superintendent Cheryl McWilliams said, the school will be closed Wednesday and Thursday after “an outside machine operator hit a buried grounding wire causing a power outage.”

The school department is working on a temporary generator so the school can re-open.

Earlier this month, Mayor Donald Grebien announced that the school was not ready to open after a fire alarm backup battery “malfunction.”
