PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The agreement for the naming rights of the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, also known as “The Dunk,” is set to expire Wednesday.

Daniel McConaghy, executive director of the Rhode Island Convention Center Authority, told ABC 6 News that they are in a discussion with Dunkin’ to extend that agreement through June.

“While the extension has not officially been signed, I expect that to happen shortly,” said McConaghy.

The downtown arena has been called the Dunkin’ Donuts Center since 2001, and renewed the agreement in 2011.

“We are discussing the opportunity with Dunkin’ Donuts and we are also looking at other options that will best serve the state of Rhode Island,” said McConaghy.

The authority issued a Request For Proposals earlier this month, and will be accepting new naming right proposals from companies until May 4.
