Air Quality Alert in Effect for Wednesday
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Environmental officials in Rhode Island say the heat and humidity means unhealthy air, and they've issued an air quality alert.
Wednesday's alert means RIPTA buses and trolleys are free all day.
The Department of Environmental Management is asking people to limit driving, avoid using lawnmowers that have small engines, and not to use charcoal lighter fuels.
Health officials say children, the elderly and those with breathing problems should limit exercise and heavy activity.
