Amazon in Fall River handling record-breaking cyber Monday sales

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — Cyber Monday, the busiest online shopping day of the year, was in full swing at the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Fall River.

The warehouse is where the online orders are sent and where the first stop in the delivery process is handled.

The general manager told ABC 6 News that some of the hot deals shoppers are buying into this year.

“We see a lot of vacuum cleaners, and this year were seeing a ton of kitchen appliances which is pretty typical for a cyber-Monday,” Katin Miller, general manager Fall River Amazon, said.

This year, Miller said, is a record-breaking year.

The Fall River location expects to ship over 80,000 packages out on this Cyber Monday.

“And that is just about double what we would normally do, about a month ago we were shipping about half that,” Miller said.

So, how does a fulfillment center prepare for such high volumes ahead of a major online sale?

With 1,200 employees from around the area, Amazon told ABC 6 that everyone on staff is trained to understand customer shipments.

“In the months leading up to cyber-Monday we focus on bringing in inventory, receiving and filling our shelves, and then today and tomorrow we send everyone over to start pick and pack and ship custom orders,” Miller added.

Staff told ABC 6 even though Cyber Monday is one day, the shipment and volume of packages going out will consistently be in large numbers through the week.
