Amtrak conductor dead after falling off of train in Westerly

WESTERLY, R.I. (WLNE)- An Amtrak conductor died on Saturday afternoon , after falling off the train she was working as it left the Westerly train station, according to Westerly Police Chief Shawn Lacey.

The conductor was a 26-year-old woman from Massachusetts.

Lacey said that the train was approaching the station when staff members realized that the conductor was not answering her radio. The train was then stopped so staff could look for her.

The conductor was found by staff members about 50 yards south of the High Street Bridge, which is about 200 yards north of the station.

A medical examiner is responding to the scene to retrieve the body.

Amtrak police are also responding and will be handling the investigation, according to Lacey.
