DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WLNE) – A raccoon captured by animal control officers in Dartmouth has tested positive for rabies.

Dartmouth Animal Control said in a Facebook post on Wednesday that the raccoon, found in the Tucker Road / Idlewild area, tested positive after a State Lab rabies test.

Officers said there were two juvenile raccoons in the area of the afflicted animal.

Animal Control warned residents not to approach any young raccoons seen in the area, and to make sure that pets are up to date on vaccines.
