Another round of severe storms possible this evening
Stay Weather Aware 5pm - midnight
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Not a whole lot going on this morning. By late morning/early afternoon we will have breaks of sunshine, clouds, and scattered showers.
The Storm Predictions Center has us in a Marginal risk category — and that’s for this evenings’ storms moving through.
As we head into the late afternoon and evening hours, that’s when we’ll see this low pressure system going offshore and then working its way up along the coast. This track is really going to determine what type of weather we get.
If it moves inland, it will bring that warm, moist air right over us. That means heavy downpours. If it stays further to the south then the severe threat goes down.
As of now, a few models are keeping it just off shore and the South Coast, Cape, and coastal towns will see the heavier, stronger thunderstorms.
A few strong gusts and a tornado could be possible within this environment. We will stay weather aware this evening and be prepared for the worst case scenario.
Know the difference between a WATCH and a WARNING.
A WATCH is when we have all the ingredients to have severe weather. Make sure you have a plan.
A WARNING is when there is an immediate threat to you and your property. This is when you use your plan and seek shelter.
