AP: FBI, Social Security Offices in RI Evacuated

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A building that houses the Providence offices of the FBI, U.S. Bankruptcy Trustee and some Social Security offices has been evacuated due to a threat to violence.

A security guard at the Westminster Square building in downtown Providence said Tuesday that a call made to Providence police on Monday threatened that men with guns were planning to come to the Social Security offices to shoot judges there.

The guard said another call was received by the Social Security offices on Tuesday, warning that were explosives in the building. FBI agent Jeffrey Sallet, who was evacuated, said the matter was under investigation.

The building also houses the offices of the Associated Press in Providence.
