Aquapalooza returns to Potters Cove Saturday

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WLNE) — The long-running Rhode Island tradition, Aquapalooza, returns Saturday.

The event draws thousands of boaters, providing a party atmosphere on the water.

This year, with no restrictions like we’ve seen in years past, law enforcement expect a big turnout and plan to have a zero tolerance policy.

Police from Portsmouth, Newport, Warwick, Providence, and Bristol, as well as the Department of Emergency Management, Coast Guard, and State Police will all be patrolling  Potters Cove waters Saturday.

“Don’t do anything that’s going to attract attention and we won’t bother you,” said Portsmouth police officer and harbormaster Bruce Celico.

Celico noted  the importance of safety and staying alert while boating, since Potters Cove is a no wake zone.

“The biggest thing is obviously DUIs. We’re gunna be out there in full force, regardless of weather,” he said.
