Athletes ready to take on 127th Boston Marathon

BOSTON (WLNE) — Runners from all 50 states and 122 countries are set to take on the 127th Boston Marathon on Monday.

Buses lined up on Charles Street in Boston to bring over 30,000 participants to the starting line in Hopkinton.

 

The first race of the day will be the men’s wheelchair race at 9:02 a.m. followed by the women’s wheelchair race at 9:05 a.m.

The professional men’s race will kick off at 9:37 a.m. and professional women’s will begin 10 minutes later.

Four waves of participants will go every 25 minutes starting at 10 a.m. with the last taking off at 11:15 a.m.

This Marathon Monday marks 10 years since the tragic bombings that killed three people and injured hundreds.

Law enforcement officials held security briefings for runners and spectators at the Hopkinton Town Common before the races began.
