Man shot by masked suspect in parking lot of Attleboro grocery store

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WLNE)- A man was shot in the parking lot of an Attleboro grocery store Friday night.

Attleboro Police Chief Kyle Heagney said the department received multiple calls for reports of shots fired in the Stop & Shop parking lot on Washington Street around 10 p.m.

Witnesses told police a man wearing a mask approached the victims car in the lot and fired multiple shots. The male victim was shot by the gunfire.

The suspect fled on foot.

Police tell ABC6 the victim drove away in his car down Route 1 and was found in the IHOP parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital for surgery. Chief Heagney said the man is recovering and now in stable condition.

The Chief noted the investigation is still very active.

ABC6 News Crews were live at the scene Friday night where they saw a police presence from both Attleboro Police and Massachusetts State Police, as well as shell casing across the Stop & Shop parking lot.

There was an additional scene developing at the IHOP down the road. As of 11:30 p.m. Friday police officers were still on scene there and a car with a shattered window was parked in the lot.
