Attleboro man dies after begin struck by car in North Smithfield

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I (WLNE) – Rhode Island State Police say an Attleboro man died from his injuries after getting struck by a car over the weekend.

Police say 57-year-old, Raymond Mercier was hit around 9:30 PM on Sunday.

Mercier was trying to cross Route 146 at Sayles Hill Road when he was hit.

He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where we succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a North Smithfield resident, remained at the scene according to police.

Speed and impairment do not appear to be a factor, said police.

The cause is still under investigation.
