Attorney General creates special arson unit
By News Staff
Attorney General Peter Kilmartin has appointed a special prosecutor to investigate suspicious fires.
Special assistant Attorney General John Dean will take on the arson cases as it is a capital crime.
There have been a significant number of arson fires recently.
Last week three fires were set within minutes of one another in the same neighborhood.
“Arson is it’s an important crime to address. It not only threatens property, but it threatens lives. It threatens the lives of first responders and it needs to be taken seriously,” says Kilmartin.
The AG’s office has around 20 arson prosecutions currently pending.
