PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea and Attorney General Peter Neronha are warning Rhode Islanders about a text message scam.

The state has gotten reports of scam texts encouraging residents to sign up for a “COVID-19 Safe Drive to Work” program run by the Department of State.

The program doesn’t exist and the messages are not coming from the Department of State.

Anyone who has gotten one of these messages should contact the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Unit at consumers@riag.ri.gov or (401) 274-4400.
