AUBURN, Mass. (WLNE) — The Auburn Fire Department said they rescued six juveniles from a diversion tunnel Sunday afternoon.

Authorities said they got a call from six teenagers reporting they were inside a tunnel somewhere between Curtis Street and Southold Road.

The teens said they made their way to the tunnel and were too wet and cold to make it back to land on their own.

Communication Center officials were able to ping the cell phone of one of the kids to confirm they were dispatching responders to the correct location.

Officials said emergency personnel made their way to the kids and helped them up a sloped edge with a rope.

Firefighters said the teens were wet, cold and some had minor scrapes but had no injuries that required serious medical treatment.

Police said they contacted families to pick up their kids and thanked all involved in the rescue effort for their safe and smart strategizing.
