Bear sighting in Johnston

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – A bear was spotted in the backyard of a Johnston home, according to police.

“Earlier this evening, the Johnston Police responded to the area of Central Avenue and the Rt. 296 overpass for a reported bear sighting,” Deputy Chief Joseph Razza said.

Police are alerting the public and residents in the area to be mindful of unattended pets and animals.

Further sightings should be reported to the Johnston Police or RIDEM.
