Beisel, Cooley highlight 2022 class inducted into RIIL Hall of Fame

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — What a group honored at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick Wednesday night at the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Twelve people were honor as part of the Class of 2022. The inductees were highlighted by Providence College men’s basketball head coach Ed Cooley and U.S. Olympic swimmer Elizabeth Beisel.

“It means a lot to me cause it really has very little to recognize about what you’ve accomplished as a professional,” said Cooley. “It’s really what you did when you were in high school and, you know, going to college — being the first generation kid going to college. It continues to inspire and give hope to other young men and women.”

“For me, it’s kind of like — this is awesome what I did, but I’m hoping that I can be an inspiration to a younger athlete that’s out there,” added Beisel. “I just take so much pride in being from here and celebrating the other Rhode Islander athletes, and it’s just the most special place on earth and that’s why I live here.”

Frank Caparco, Margaret Conaty, Manny Dasilva, Claudia Defaria, Kelli Fay-Wolfe, Jamie Gresh, William Habarek, Kathy Kelly, Tom Mezzanotte, and Bethany O’Dell Peloquin were also recognized.
