Biden and Trump supporters rally outside of State House
"Biden had won, so I wanted to celebrate."
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Dozens gathered in support of both President Donald Trump and President-elect Joe Biden Saturday afternoon. Supporters gathered on either side of the street outside of the Rhode Island State House with signs, chants, and flags.
After the Associated Press declared Joe Biden the winner of the Presidential race, two large groups of supporters for both Presidential candidates stood outside of the State House to show their support.
“Biden had won, so I wanted to celebrate. The people that I’ve talked to on the Trump side of things want to see the process work its way through”, said one woman who attended in support of Joe Biden.
For the duration of the standout event remained civil.
Katherine Riordan, a supporter of Joe Biden told ABC6, “One guy game over and he was just asking us, he was being polite, he was asking us why we voted for Biden and stuff, but then one lady was yelling at us that our taxes are going to go up, and we were like, ‘we don’t make over $400,000 a year, so I don’t think that’s going to happen.”
On the Trump side of the street, supporter Patrick Moise said, “What I’m hoping for is that the process works itself out through the proper legal channels and whatever result comes about is incontrovertible in such a way that no side would be able to protest it or have some type of resistance to it or whatever.”
President-elect Joe Biden’s victory came after more than three days as election officials counted ballots that had been delayed in processing. According to the Associated Press, President Donald Trump has refused to concede, threatening legal action on ballot counting.
