SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE)- Popular Smithfield eatery, Blackie’s, announced they are closing their doors after nearly 9 years due to the pandemic.

The owners cite COVID-19 restrictions as the reason for shutting down after a just year in their new location.  The restaurant posted a statement, “It has become impossible to maintain the levels we pride ourselves on and remain profitable.”

The owners eluded to a return of the restaurant in the future, saying, “We are going to take a deep breath, sit back and wait until it is more feasible to operate to our standards.”

“The virus may have won the battle, but blackie’s will be back to win the war.”
