NEW SHOREHAM, R.I. (WLNE ) – Two men from Block Island are now paying a hefty fine for setting off a search by the Coast Guard last summer.

According to the Coast Guard, Perry Phillips and Benjamin Foster were traveling to a wedding at Breezy Point, when they set off three flares for a video.

Flares on the water indicate distress. The New Shoreham harbormaster saw the flares and alerted the Coast Guard, which launched a search operation.

Phillips and Foster now have to pay 10 thousand dollars to resolve the claim.
