Boat Fire breaks out in Portsmouth

Portsmouth, RI (WLNE) – This Friday, December 10, Firefighters responded to a boat fire at Hinckley Yachts on Little Harbor Landing around 10:30 a.m..

Warren and Middletown Fire Departments also reported to the scene.

The fire spread to two super yachts in the marina – a powerboat and a sailboat, each around 100 feet.

This challenge required fire crews on land and on fire boats to battle the fire.

ABC6 was told by Chief Paul Ford of Portsmouth Fire who told us when they arrived, the 100 foot powerboat was fully engulfed in flames and was beginning to spread to the 100 foot sailboat.

Viewer photos showed heavy black smoke and flames coming from the marina.

At least two boats have been destroyed, but no injuries.

The Fire Chief believes the fire began from some heat source on the boats. Their major concerns were more about how the Fiberglass powerboats could have effected the environment.

Though the fire is contained, fire teams will continue to battle the fire overnight.
