COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) – A boil water order has been issued for the Westwood YMCA in Coventry.

A water sample was collected on May 27 that contained E. coli. The Rhode Island Department of Health said the YMCA failed to complete a set of repeat samples within the required timeframe, resulting in the boil water order.

Water at the Westwood YMCA must now be boiled for one minute prior to drinking, cooking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food. Customers can also use bottled water.

RIDOH advises anyone using the water to bathe to be careful not to swallow it.

The order will be lifted when the source of the bacteria is investigated, corrective actions are completed, and three consecutive days of absent bacteria samples are collected.
