Former Boston Mayor Tom Menino’s funeral procession is taking him on a tour of the city he loved.

The private Mass for family and friendsbegan at noon on Monday at Most Precious Blood Parish in Hyde Park, Menino’s home neighborhood.

State troopers carried Menino’s casket out of Faneuil Hall, where he had lain in state. On Sunday thousands of people braved rain, snow and stinging winds to pay their final respects to the former mayor.

The procession Monday departed Faneuil Hall on its way to several places of significance to Menino. City residents lined parts of a route that included City Hall, Fenway Park, Dudley Square and Franklin Park.

Menino was diagnosed with cancer in February. He died Thursday at 71.
