Brayton Point chimneys demolished

SOMERSET, Mass (WLNE) – The first step in the demolition process of the Brayton Point Power Plant has concluded. 

The chimneys of the former coal-fired power plant were knocked down at 8:00 a.m on Sunday. 

Locals were filling the streets and a nearby park to get a good view of the implosion. 

Surrounding roads have been closed and the Braga bridge was temporarily shut down. 

The demolition of the two large cooling towers is scheduled for April 27th.
