PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)– Brett Smiley, the top aide for Gov. Gina Raimondo as director of the Department of the Administration, has tested positive for COVID-19.

A statement from Department of the Administration spokesman Robert Dulski said Smiley had been tested after close contact with another positive case and had been in quarantine since being notified of that exposure.

The positive test result was announced Thursday.

“Director Smiley has been working from home for the past week and has had no close contacts in state government,” Dulski said in the statement. “He does not have any symptoms and will continue to isolate and work from home in accordance with Department of Health guidance.”
