Bristol man facing charges after taking money from a non-profit association

The former Treasurer of the Rhode Island Pitch Softball Coaches Association is facing charges for allegedly embezzling money and fraudulently taking money from the association 

Rhode Island State Police arrested 55 year old Steven W. Zina, of Bristol, on August 21st at his home on Charlotte Drive after they discovered he allegedly took over $12,000 from the Coaches’ Association account. 

Zina is being charged with Embezzlement and or Fraudulent Conversion over $100, Compounding a Felony and Obtaining Money Under False Pretenses over $1,500.

He was arraigned on Justice of the Peace and held as a probation violator and was taken to the ACI. 

He is scheduled to appear at the Third District Court on August 24th. 

After conducting an investigation police obtained bank records that confirmed the money was fraudulently taken and a background check revealed he has previously been arrested for similar incidents involving non-profit associations.
